May 3 Bob Smith Trio

Bob Smith Trio

The Bob Smith Organ Trio is a story about three musicians who came together in 1985 to do few gigs and immediately became the best of friends. For these past 28 years, the trio has been headed by guitarist/vocalist Bob Smith whose strong church influence and Georgia roots always ring true in his playing and singing. Along with Bob, is veteran keyboardist Tom Pass whose instrument of choice is the Hammond B3. Tommy Burrows on drums keeps that marvelous groove alive.

The trio is based in Trenton, NJ and is very active on the local scene appearing regularly in many of the major jazz venues between Baltimore, MD and Newark, NJ. Individually, members have worked with such greats as Junior Cook, David Sanchez, Richie Cole, Woody Shaw, Cecil Payne, Eddie McFadden, Denis DiBlasio, Bootsie Barnes, “Wild Bill” Davis, Jimmy McGriff, Don Patterson, and many others. They have also appeared in concert along with the Benny Golson Quartet and Count Basie and His Orchestra. Their special blend of R&B and jazz standards recreates that classic “post-bop” organ trio sound that is enjoyed by an ever increasingly appreciative audience.

Every performance reflects the energy, fun, and earthiness of down home music. Certainly not gourmet jazz, but always a serving of some real good “foot tappin” stuff.
